Bodhisattva with a Camera: Reimagining Subjectivities in Photography Portraiture
Zihan Yuan is a senior at Ethel Walker School in Simsbury, Connecticut, where she leads a Philosophy Club while serving her community through image-making. Born and raised in Kunming, on China's southwestern periphery, she has studied in China, Singapore, and the US. Since 2019, she has been an associated photographer for the Yunnan Association for the Promotion of Natural and Cultural Heritage Protection. Her images received a 2024 Scholastic Art Gold Key and two Honorable Mentions. Philosophizing through photography, she is now pursuing a project to reimagine portraiture methodology through Buddhist thoughts.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
