Jeffrey Sauger grew up in Troy, Michigan. He has a BAA in Journalism from CMU and was the Photo Editor of CM Life, the student-run newspaper. After eight years at the Newport (RI) Daily News, he left to pursue his masters degree at the School of Visual Communication at Ohio University, where he began documenting Black family farms. That work has been exhibited at Museum of New Art in Pontiac, U of M, Jack Hanley Gallery and Loupe Digital in NYC. His work has been published around the world. In 2003, he documented an Iraqi Shiite family's first time returning to Iraq after they fled during the first Gulf War. Sauger was a contract photographer for General Motors. He's been a PJ instructor at CMU since 2022, this is his second year in tenure track. He lives with his wife Megan and their children Luke and Violet in Royal Oak.
