Care is demanding, and that demand proves its importance. Change is painful, and that pain becomes a part of you. Both are necessary, and sometimes rely on the tenderness of those you love.
It is our Care, alongside the deviance and possibility implicit in our Care, that disallows our own nonexistence.
Going stealth, hosting friends on the floor of a studio apartment, and relying on DIY hormones, are no longer survival tactics of the past, but timely necessities when faced with an international loss of governmental support.
Through injecting Polaroids with Estrogen and Testosterone, The Auger and The Augment explores how people in transition employ alteration, anonymity, and intimacy in order to foster survival and bore holes into systems that prevent bodily autonomy.
I call these operations Acting As An Auger.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
