Colleen Mullins was the Director of the BFA Photography Program at The Art Institutes International Minnesota for over six years, where she helped write the college's Higher Learning Commission Self-Study toward initial accreditation, planned and executed the move of her program to a new state-of-the-art facility, initiated a travel program to New Orleans for both Photo Essay and Short Documentary courses, and created an assessment program in Photography, which became the model for the entire college. For the last year and a half of her tenure there, she also directed the Digital Film & Video Production Program.

Since The Art Institutes reorganized in 2012, she has been pursuing her creative work in photography and book arts, teaching, and devoting time to professional practices coaching for artists.

Mullins has received the WSW Project Grant, four Minnesota State Arts Board Grants, and two McKnight Artist Fellowships. Her photographs are in the collections of the Ogden Museum of Southern Art, the Southeast Museum of Photography, and the Weeks Gallery Global Collection of Photography, and her artist books are in numerous collections, including The Center for Creative Photography Library, U of A, Dickson Art Center, UCLA, and Yale University's 'Art of the Book' collection.
