In this presentation we will talk about our community zine "The Space" with colleagues and former classmates Juan Carrillo Dominguez and Fernanda Durazo + community member Adrian Metoyer. As recent photo grads who have developed the zine under our mentor Tamara Cedré, we seek to extend a platform to socially engaged artists from our area who are unable to show their work in physical spaces. With a distribution of 4k copies and 8 newsstands, we have been able to create launch events around our printed issues that delve into community discussions on topics like climate change, border policy and food insecurity. Photography is at the heart of our content but, soliciting submissions from local residents in the IE has opened us up to embracing a range of media in the zine.
