Northern Utah is a region culturally constructed around the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, an institutionalized sect that believes we are the last dispensation in the fulness of times. In a location brimming with devoted followers, eccentric social norms and tainted histories, Bailey Rigby has spent the last several years utilizing photography and writing as a means to uncover her own parting from the Church, as well as the pilgrimage her ancestors took to establish and organize the Mormon religion in Salt Lake City nearly 200 years prior. In this presentation, Rigby will share how metaphor and narrative-based photography have bridged two opposing crises of faith in her body of work "I Was Meant to Make a Garden of this Land."
