Vicki VanAmeyden received a Master of Fine Arts in Painting from Western Michigan
University in Kalamazoo, MI with a concentration in printmaking and a Bachelor
of Fine Arts in Illustration from Kendall School of Design, Grand Rapids, MI.
Her diverse and interdisciplinary approach to art making often includes the use of text
and non-traditional materials. Using image as metaphor for the human condition,
VanAmeyden navigates through the empathy required in deciphering what it means
to be a person in the singular and in the collective sense.
VanAmeyden’s work has been acknowledged with awards at both the regional and
national levels and includes a Lila Acheson Wallace Award for Illustration. Additional
grants and awards include: KCC Outstanding Adjunct Award for Excellence in Teaching;
WMU Teaching Effectiveness Award; Teacher Ambassador Appointment to Takasaki,
Japan; West Michigan Merit Scholarship; WMU Faculty Development Grant; Creative
Industries Development Grant; Kalamazoo Artist Development Initiative Grant; and
Kellogg Community College Foundation Program Initiative Grant.
