Ginger Owen is Associate Professor of Photography and Intermedia at the Gwen Frostic School of Art, Western Michigan University in Kalamazoo, MI. Owen holds an MFA in Photography from Louisiana State University and a BFA in Photography from the University of Central Florida. Owen’s artwork derives imagery from narratives and themes on family history, race, gender, and culture. Her interdisciplinary practices include installation, sculpture, digital, traditional and non-silver photographic processes. She has lectured, worked, and exhibited internationally. Awards and grants include: a Fellowship at Tisch School of Arts, New York University, The Photography Institute; Ambassador to Takasaki, Japan; WMU College of Fine Arts Fellowship; Atlantic Center for the Arts Residency; Individual Artist Grant - Arts Council of Kalamazoo; Fox Talbot Museum at Lacock Abbey, UK Arts Residency. Owen’s exhibitions include: Houston Museum of Art, Living Design Center OZONE, Tokyo, Japan, Texas Tech University, Stony Brook University, NY, Tilt Gallery, Scottsdale, AZ, and the Center for the Living Arts, Mobile, AL. Owen is also in the following collections; Fox Talbot Musuem, Houston Museum of Art, Mc Neese State University, Lake Charles, LA; J. Paul Getty Museum, The Conservation Institute, Los Angeles, CA.
