This presentation by Steph Foster advocates for embracing plurality in photography by drawing inspiration from María Lugones' concepts of world-traveling, loving perception, and the ontological significance of the outsider. Traveling, the shifting between multiple constructions of the self, offers a compelling framework for photographers to engage with others, as it can be willfully exercised in the service of reciprocal identification. Photography has the power to transport the viewer into the worlds of those robbed of their solidity through indifference, providing the opportunity to understand what it is to be them and what it is to be ourselves in their eyes.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
