HONORED EDUCATOR: John Willis

John Willis is the Professor of Photography at Marlboro College. He received his Master of Fine Arts Degree from the Rhode Island School of Design. Willis co-founded The In-Sight Photography Project in 1992 serving youth regardless of their ability to pay in 1992 and has been volunteering there since. Along with Erin Barnard he also co-founded the Exposures Cross Cultural Youth Arts Program. Willis received a John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship in 2011. His work is included in numerous permanent collections including Whitney Museum of American Art, The Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Photography, The Bibliotheque Nationale de France, and, The National Museum of Native Americans. John's book project with photographer Tom Young, "Recycled Realities" was published by the Center of American Places 2005. Willis' second book Views From The Reservation published in 2010 and a revised edition is coming out in 2019 published by GFT Press. A new book, Mni Wiconi, Honoring the Water Protectors is also coming out in 2019 and also published by GFT Press.
