Josh Raftery is a native of Phoenix, Arizona, where he began practicing darkroom photography in 2001. During his undergraduate career, he studied forensic photography and sciences, which would later serve as a catalyst for future creative endeavors. In 2011, he received his BFA with an emphasis in photography from Arizona State University. His current photographic work examines the physical transformations that occur after death. The images are not meant to insist on the inevitable fact of death, but rather to investigate characteristics of existence. Raftery utilizes traditional photographic processes to emphasize the passage of time and memory that is represented in his work. He is currently a graduate student at Ohio University in the Photography + Integrated Media program; his work has been exhibited nationally.
