Amy Friend grew up on the outskirts of Windsor, Ontario, Canada where the Detroit River meets Lake St.Clair. She studied at OCADU (Toronto) before embarking on intermittent travels through Europe, Morocco, Cuba, and the United States. Upon her return she continued her studies and received a BFA Honours degree and B.Ed degree from York University, Toronto as well as an MFA from the University of Windsor. Currently she teaches Fine Arts at Brock University in St. Catharines, Ontario.
Friend's work has been featured in select publications such as the Magenta Flash Forward Emerging Photography Competition, Creative Block (Chronicle Books), EnRoute Magazine, LENS magazine (China), The Walrus and &Magazine (Israel). Her work has been exhibited nationally and internationally. Friend has received grants from the Canada Council for the Arts and the Ontario Arts Council.
In 2013 Friend was one of the top 50 photographers chosen for the Critical Mass Photo Competition. Her work has most recently been exhibited in Paris, France (Galerie Riviere/Faiveley) and at the Cordon/Potts Gallery in San Francisco. She has several projects "on the go" at any one time.
