Student Presentation: From Student to Teacher

Lisa Snead

Saturday, October 11 - 10:30AM to 11:00AM
Jenkins Fine Art Center Rm 1326

Lisa Snead grew up in a small conservative town in North Carolina and finally found a place where she belonged- the East Carolina University's School of Art and Design. She is double majoring with a BFA in Photography and Art Education and there is a very obvious different mentality between the programs. Any good art program expects you to challenge the system but in education you are part of the system.

Being the daughter of a teacher, she grew up knowing the pluses and minuses of being in education. She knew about the crummy pay, the paper work, the late night lesson plans, she knew it was a job that you took to make a difference in a person's life in the form of education. During her junior year she noticed how much she would have to personally change in order to fit the ideological standards placed on teachers- how much any art student has to change to become "professional".
