During the 1970-summer term, at the University of Georgia, I was completing
requirements for a master's degree in Art Education, when Dr. Nix told me to
go to his office, get that old Exacta camera, load it, then-document Watkinsville.
That fall, after receiving my degree, I enrolled in Beginning Photography. We
weren't aware of how unusual it was that photography (Photographic Design)
was included in an Art Department curriculum. Students were introduced to
photography by building a tri-focal pinhole camera out of balsa wood, with which we would learn to make photography art. I have never taken for granted the wonderment of drawing with light.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
