A look into the constructed culture of the Order of the Arrow and its appropriation of Native American customs and symbols. Over the past 5 years I have been visiting functions of the Order of the Arrow, a sub-group of the Boy Scouts, to document the use of Native American imagery in its program. Scouts dress, act, and re-create ceremonies as part of the official program of the organization. The intent of the my project is to begin a conversation with both its participants and the public at large about the ethics and responsibility of the organization.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
Please join the conversation.
