Penelope Umbrico's works including the ongoing "Suns from Flickr" that includes hundreds of thousands of images of sunsets found on the photo sharing site Flickr. Umbrico's work has been the subject of solo exhibitions at the Discovery Award Exhibition Rencontres d'Arles, France International Center of Photography and in numerous group exhibitions including those at MoMA; MoMA PS1; MassMoCA; San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, CA; The Pingyao International Photography Festival, China. Her work is in the collections of the Museum of Modern Art, the International Center of Photography, the Museum of Contemporary Photography, the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, the Tampa Museum of Art, and The Metropolitan Museum of Art to name a few. Umbrico has been a Guggenheim Fellow, New York Foundation of the Arts Fellow; the recipient of the Anonymous Was A Woman Award; and an Aaron Siskind Foundation Individual Photographer's Fellowship Grant, 2008.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
