Reaching Out: Partnerships, Pedagogy and Photography at CUNY
Liena Vayzman is currently Assistant Professor of Fine Arts in the Humanities Department at LaGuardia Community College, City University of New York.
Dr. Liena Vayzman earned the PhD in History of Art at Yale University, completing her dissertation on French Surrealist photographer Claude Cahun. Her recent publications include "Photographing the Invisible: LaToya Ruby Frazier" in Art Practical and the introduction for the exhibition catalogue "Magic Mirror: Claude Cahun / Sarah Pucill" at the Nunnery Gallery, London. She also has written for XTRA Contemporary Art Quarterly (Los Angeles), Sinister Wisdom, and Daily Serving. Dr. Vayzman has presented lectures at the Courtauld Institute of Art's History of Photography seminar and the Photographic Memory Workshop at Yale. She participated in the postgraduate Fine Arts residency at the Ecole Regionale des BeauxArts in Nantes, France. Her own photography has been published in Radical Society, Proximity, Other Magazine, and a Swedish book on American queer art and activism, and exhibited nationally and internationally. She has taught at the Photography MFA program at San Jose State University, Wesleyan University, Rhode Island School of Design, and the New School.
