This presentation will outline the artist's contemporary process-based approaches to socially engaged photography and moving image and influences, including a collaborative photographic studio paired with storytelling and group performances in public spaces. With attention to group dynamics and participant experience, projects shared will include Happy Valley, produced in Flint, Michigan in 2013; Drivers, shot in Iowa City, Iowa in 2022; and Sea of Oil, 2013 – present (Houston, TX + Iowa City, IA). This talk will also trace the visual and cultural influences of (and oppositions to) the photographic and moving image work of Robbins + Becher, Mark Tribe, P.L. diCorcia, Mitch Epstein and others.
