Student conversation with Ana Teresa Fernandez and Mario Ontiveros

Mario Ontiveros is the editor and a contributor to Baca: Art, Collaboration, and Mural Making (Angel City Press, 2017). An assistant professor of art history at California State University, Northridge (CSUN), his research interests include how critical art practices respond to geopolitical challenges, such as global capitalism, deindustrialization, immigration, and intolerance; and how impermanence and instability can create spaces for self-organizing, solidarity, and conviviality. Along with contributing to the MFA Program at VCFA, he serves on the editorial board of X-TRA, a contemporary art journal based in Los Angeles. He holds a PhD in art history from UCLA.
