Culture Shift: Being Brown in Academia will take a student perspective on what it is like to be Latinx in college today. Moderated by their former professor, Latinx students from different backgrounds will discuss their perspectives and experiences within academia. Representation. Diversity. Equity. These are buzzwords are used more and more everyday. Are the students seeing or feeling a difference? This panel will touch upon the challenges that are specific to people of color, what Latinx students would like their professors to understand, how faculty can at times fail these students, and overall how to make the classroom a more inclusive space for students of color.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
