Framing Our Truths was an 11-week photography and storytelling project designed to empower LGBTQ seniors to utilize their cell phone cameras as tools for creative expression and self-representation. Through weekly workshops focused on visual storytelling, composition, and creative editing, 24 participants explored themes of identity, memory, and connection. The project culminated in a month-long public exhibition showcasing their photo stories, offering a powerful counter-narrative to ageism and queer invisibility.
This panel presentation will bring together workshop facilitators Mary-Linn Hughes and Christopher Anthony Velasco, along with several senior participants, who will share selections of their work and reflect on the transformative experience of making and exhibiting their stories. Together, we'll discuss the role of accessible art-making in fostering community, visibility, and intergenerational dialogue within LGBTQ spaces.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
