UCR ARTS California Museum of Photography

Under one roof, UCR ARTS brings together the California Museum of Photography (1973) and the Barbara & Art Culver Center of the Arts (2010) located in downtown Riverside, California, 6o miles from Los Angeles. UCR ARTS is the West Coast's premier university photography museum and contemporary art center. As an international arts hub and research center, we generate ideas and provoke dialogue through groundbreaking exhibitions, performances, and programming.

The California Museum of Photography has more than 500,000 pieces in its collection, spanning the history of photography. The Culver Center has over 1,500 works of contemporary art. Researchers and visitors from around the world come to UCR ARTS to explore its collections.

The Culver houses a 72-seat state-of-the-art film and video screening room; the Coil Atrium Gallery for exhibitions, music, and performances under a magnificent 35-foot skylight, and f-stop pedestrian gallery. Culver's second floor contains an incubator for advanced research in the arts, dance studios, and a black-box theater. The screening room exhibits more than 250 different films every year and is one of just a few venues in the region to screen independent, foreign, documentary, and experimental films.

City of Riverside

Riverside's rich history and forward-thinking leadership have fostered a strong culture of art and innovation, shaping a community where creativity and entrepreneurship thrive side by side. Since its incorporation in 1870, Riverside has embraced artistic expression and cutting-edge ideas, making it a center for both cultural and technological advancement.

The city's commitment to the arts is exemplified by institutions like the Riverside Art Museum, a hub for local and regional artists, and The Cheech Marin Center for Chicano Art & Culture (affectionately known as "The Cheech"), which stands as a national landmark for Chicano art. These institutions not only highlight Riverside's deep appreciation for creative expression but also attract visitors, artists, and scholars from across the country.

Innovation also thrives in Riverside's strong educational ecosystem, home to three universitiesUniversity of California, Riverside (UCR), California Baptist University (CBU), and La Sierra University — along with Riverside City College. These institutions fuel research, artistic development, and entrepreneurial activity, blending education, creativity, and innovation into the city's DNA.
