This presentation explores the inspiration for the photograph of Ridley and Heeter, previously created in the 1970s by another portrait photographer and the gay BDSM community of New York City. It will compare their portrait to historical practices of couples portraits with Carte-de-visite, and discuss the various elements included in the images besides the two men that signal status, community, and art historical quotations
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
