In photography, ethics are often described in terms of codes or guidelines, and ethical debates are often reduced to descriptions of "ethical" or "unethical" behaviour. Rather than approaching photography ethics in binary terms, I am advocating for a more nuanced approach. In this Photo Frame talk, I will introduce a principles-based approach to photography ethics. A principles-based approach can help us to have more productive conversations about ethics by giving us more expansive language. By framing conversations about ethics in terms of principles, we can overcome polarisation and achieve a wider consensus about ethics within the industry.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
