"What does this have to do with photography?" The early years of the SPE Women's Caucus
Ariel Evans is Research Fellow in contemporary art in the African and African Diaspora Studies Department at The University of Texas at Austin. She specializes in U.S. art and photography after 1945, particularly its intersections with the politics of gender, race, and sexuality. This year, she is also William H. Truettner Postdoctoral Fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum. Her research has been supported by Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art, the Getty Research Institute, the Center for Creative Photography, and the Harry Ransom Center, among others. She is founding editor of the magazine Pastelegram, and has written for publications including Miranda, photographies, The Brooklyn Rail, caa.reviews, and Art in America.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
