Developing the conference's title "Homecoming," this presentation explores the history of writings about the medium's "home," or where photography is "at home," or its "natural home," etc. For example, in 1931, theorist Walter Benjamin argued that early photography in the 1840s and 1850s was most "at home" in the "marketplace."
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
