Lucia Nimcova (I)
Friday, March 02 - 11:00AM to 11:45AM
Grand Ballroom Salon I
Since 2014, Nimcova gathered an archive of photography and video throughout western Ukraine. As opposed to traditional documentary practices, she'd prefer to describe her work as a folk opera: a collection of songs, stories, music, performance and field recordings, existing somewhere between an ethnographic document and musical theatre." Nimcova particularly interested in songs that describe in tragic or comical ways domestic abuse, murder, conflict, sex, love and hate. She wants to show the alternative folklore of the region - hard mountain rap, vintage feminism and filthy Carpathian hip hop - is still alive and relevant, before its last inheritors disappear.
