Born in 1983, Ben Alper graduated from the University of North Carolina with a MFA in studio art and also has a BFA in photography from the Massachusetts College of Art and Design. His work has been shown widely in exhibitions, including: NADA Art Fair in Miami, the Luminary Center for the Arts in St. Louis, Le Dictateur Gallery in Milan, Italy, and Meulensteen and Michael Matthews galleries in New York. In addition to this, he's been featured and commissioned by many publications and has two books, Adrift and A Series of Occurrences.
Alper's process consists of wandering and photographing what he comes upon--at least in his most recent book, A Series of Occurrences. Using black and white exclusively, he moves toward abstraction and makes the work emotionally distant and psychologically isolating.
Dialogue and critique are important to the SPE mission.
