Detailed Job Description

The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences is seeking qualified applicants for a tenure-track position housed primarily teach in the Fine Art Photography option within the Photographic Imaging Arts BFA programs and in the MFA in Photography and Related Media program. The successful candidate will teach technical and conceptual undergraduate and graduate-level digital and analog photography courses, critique courses, and studio courses.

The candidate's portfolio must demonstrate scholarship on a national and international level; conceptual, historical, and theoretical knowledge of contemporary photography and fine art; and facility with technical digital and analog photographic processes from capture to output, including software (Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.).

The candidate must be dedicated to scholarship and service, including the ability to assist students in developing their professional skills as practicing artists. Ideal candidates will provide leadership and vision to the interdisciplinary vibrancy of the BFA and MFA programs, its students, and its curriculum.

Department/College Description

THE SCHOOL:
The School of Photographic Arts and Sciences (SPAS) is internationally recognized for its professional study of photographic practices in a wide array of related disciplines, including advertising and fine art photography, photojournalism, visual media, photographic sciences, and media technologies. Alumni are employed across the industry with NPR, NASA, Apple, NVIDIA, Canon, The Washington Post, Zeiss, The Library of Congress, Nikon, The Forsyth Institute, Olympus, Fujifilm, Sony, Adobe and Amazon Lab. Our alumni are frequent contributors to magazine covers such as TIME and WIRED, The Atlantic, as well as The New York Times Magazine. Eleven photography alumni have won a combined 15 Pulitzer Prizes.

U.S. News and World Report ranks our MFA in Photography and Related Media among the top ten photo programs in the country. Our faculty include photographic artists, practitioners, scientists and scholars, including Fulbright scholars, Magnum photographers, National Geographic photographers, Pulitzer-Prize winners, former White House photo editors, Guggenheim recipients, Louis Schmidt Award winners, and more. THE COLLEGE:

Required Minimum Qualifications

• An MFA degree or equivalent terminal degree in photography or related areas
• Minimum two years of teaching experience in higher education beyond graduate school
• Record of artistic exhibition at the national and international level, as well as other appropriate scholarly and professional distinctions
• Facility with technical digital and analog photographic processes, including software (Lightroom, Photoshop, etc.) from capture to output
• Conceptual, historical, and theoretical knowledge of contemporary photography and fine art
• Ability to contribute meaningfully to the College's continuing commitment to cultural diversity, pluralism, and individual differences
