Department: The Department of Art within the College of Fine Arts at Florida State University seeks applicants for a 9-month tenure-track assistant professor position within the Photography + Moving Image focus area. We seek an artist, scholar, and educator with a robust interdisciplinary research and creative practice whose expertise will amplify our existing capabilities in experimental, expanded, and cross-platform media practices.
The Department of Art confers BA, BFA, and MFA (3-year) Studio Art degrees. Our top-ranked programs encourage interdisciplinary investigations across a wide range of concentrations spanning Book Arts, Ceramics, Drawing, Electronic Art, Moving Image, Painting, Photography, Printmaking, and Sculpture. Responsibilities: This position is responsible for research and creative activity, teaching graduate and undergraduate courses, and service to the department, college, and university. The ideal candidate will contribute to the leadership of and curriculum development within the Photography and Moving Image Area and throughout the Department of Art.
The candidate must maintain an active professional record, including external research support, exhibitions, and publications. We are especially interested in candidates who will engage with research and teaching opportunities across the broad range of disciplines this large public university offers, while also offering opportunities for students to explore community involved practices. Leadership and curriculum development that considers the broad range of academic and artistic interests of our students is expected.
Qualifications: This position requires an MFA in Studio Art or related field. Applicants should have an active professional record, a clear record of excellence in teaching, strong communication and leadership skills, and an interest and understanding of a wide array of curricular and artistic methodologies.
Candidates must have an interest in teaching in the Photography and Moving Image focus areas within an interdisciplinary context and possess knowledge of the evolving history, criticism and theories of visual art. We are particularly interested in candidates whose creative practice engages discourses that have been historically under-represented.
