The Art, Art History, and Film Department of Boston College invites applications for the position of Assistant Professor of the Practice of Photography. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track position with a three-year renewable contract, to begin in the 2020 fall semester.

The department seeks candidates with a commitment to undergraduate teaching, a robust professional photography practice and extensive exhibition record, including gallery / museum shows. The appointee will be dedicated to promoting diversity, multiculturalism, and inclusion in the department and in the larger university setting.

The appointee will teach a combination of introductory level classes (Photography 1 and Introduction to Digital Photography) as well as intermediate and advanced-level courses in photographic practice and theory. The successful candidate must be fluent in both analog darkroom procedures (including small, medium and large-format camera technique, film processing, traditional and non-silver printing), and digital photography and darkroom (including capture and editing techniques, Adobe Cloud, image formatting, camera and lighting techniques, and both laser and inkjet printing). The appointee will participate in strategic planning for the Art program, advise and mentor students, and contribute to departmental service. The course load is reduced from six to five courses per year to include management of photography labs, classrooms, and workspaces. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, supervision of student monitors and managing facilities and equipment.
