JOB DESCRIPTION/RESPONSIBILITIES
The Department of Art and Design at Southern Illinois University Edwardsville (SIUE) is seeking an Assistant Professor for Photography and Digital Imaging. The successful candidate will be an active participant in the department, with responsibilities that include: teaching undergraduate and graduate coursework; advising and directing Bachelor of Fine Arts senior projects and Master's research projects; contributing to the program and SIUE through participation in interdisciplinary committees; and ongoing engagement in scholarly, creative, and professional activities.

TERMS OF APPOINTMENT
Full-time, tenure track, academic year (nine-month) appointment beginning August 2019.

Commensurate with qualifications, experience, and credentials

QUALIFICATIONS
Candidates must hold an MFA in Art with a specialization in Photography or Digital Imaging. Applicants should be a practicing artist with a strong professional record of creative research. Preference will be given to candidates who demonstrate a knowledge of contemporary critical and theoretical issues, and who have prior teaching experience at the college/university level.

The successful candidate will teach beginning to advanced-level undergraduate classes as well as graduate studio and seminar courses. Qualified candidates will have an understanding of contemporary photography practices, theories and concepts, as well as capabilities to teach traditional darkroom processes. Additional skills in time-based media are preferred. The ideal candidate should be comfortable working across disciplines and will be capable of growing an established photography program through integration of expanded media.

ABOUT SIUE
Southern Illinois University Edwardsville is located 25 miles from downtown St. Louis. The city's close proximity offers a vast array of museums, galleries, and other cultural opportunities. Faculty regularly exhibit, lecture, and lead workshops within the St. Louis region's art community. The NASAD accredited Department of Art and Design recently moved into a newly renovated, state-of-the-art facility on the main SIUE campus. The new facilities include a 3,700-square-foot gallery space and generously equipped studio areas for concentrations including: photography/digital arts, sculpture, ceramics, glass, textiles, metalworking/jewelry, graphic design, painting, drawing and printmaking.
