The Department of Art and Art History at Wheaton College (MA) invites applications for a full-time, tenure track Assistant Professor position, beginning in the Spring or Fall of 2019. We seek a dynamic artist with recognized professional achievement, or evidence of the potential for recognized professional achievement, in Photography. The ideal candidate has an understanding of contemporary photographic practices, theories and concepts, and competencies to teach black and white darkroom photography and digital photography. Other responsibilities of the position include supporting a dynamic studio art curriculum with respect to emerging technologies and their potential for interdisciplinary applications; teaching a rotation of First Year Seminar and Senior Projects in Studio Art; department service courses as needed; advising and mentoring diverse students; and collaborating with colleagues on service to the department and College.
We are seeking an energetic and collegial colleague who is passionate about teaching art and nurturing a vibrant studio culture within a liberal arts framework. Candidates should be committed to responsive contemporary pedagogies that inspire each student's potential for introspection and awareness, creative thought, and artistic expression in a supportive classroom environment. Art has important roles in society, one being to broaden understanding, especially valuable in an increasingly complex world. Applicants should describe in their letter of application how their teaching and artistic scholarship might support the department and College's commitment to social justice, diversity and inclusion.
MFA and teaching experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
For full consideration, the following are to be submitted via Wheaton's online application system: letter of application; curriculum vitae; statement of teaching philosophy and sample syllabus from a course you have taught; artist statement and evidence of work in the field that consists of a minimum of 20 images of your work with image checklist; and examples of student work, if available.
The application form will also request contact information for three references. Please note that references will be contacted via email once an application has been submitted, and asked to upload letters of recommendation directly to the online application system.
Applications will be considered on an ongoing basis beginning March 31, 2018. The position will remain open until filled.
Applications will only be accepted through Wheaton's employment website, which can be accessed through the following application link: http://jobs.wheatoncollege.edu/postings/2305
