Rank: Assistant Professor (Tenure-track) Description: The Department of Art & Art History is seeking qualified candidates for a full-time, tenure-track position in Interdisciplinary Art, with an emphasis in Photography. The ideal candidate will be an actively exhibiting, photo-based, interdisciplinary artist with national recognition, digital expertise, and experience teaching studio foundations courses. The candidate will develop and teach courses that serve a wide range of undergraduate and graduate students in courses focusing on interdisciplinary foundations, contemporary photographic practices, and graduate interdisciplinary seminars. In addition to possessing expertise in photography, the ideal candidate will also have a record of working in one or more of the following media: installation art; digital media art; digital video; alternative photographic processes; painting; or print-making. The candidate will serve to support and expand interdisciplinary art, building the department's foundations curriculum, which will need to be at the core of a revised BA Studio Art program. The candidate will also work with BFA and MFA programs in Photography, collaborating with Photography faculty and photographic lab technicians to develop and support these programs. Qualifications:
•Master of Fine Arts or Ph.D. in Photography, or related field of studio art;
•A demonstrated commitment to studio foundations and interdisciplinary practice;
•An ability to collaborate across all disciplines represented by the department;
•Teaching experience in photography and at least on other medium or area, giving evidence ofinterdisciplinary expertise;
•Ability to teach upper-division photography classes, as well as the following interdisciplinaryStudio Art courses: Art 02 - The Artist in Contemporary Culture; and Art 03 - Medium andMessage;
•Familiarity with a wide range of photographic equipment and processes;
•Demonstrated artistic achievement as evidenced by a record of artistic exhibition andacademic research in photo-based interdisciplinary art;
•Demonstrated awareness of and sensitivity to the educational goals of a multicultural population,such asmight have been gained in cross-cultural study, training, teaching, and other comparableexperiences;
•Minimum of two years teaching experience at the university level is preferred.
•Teach existing and develop new foundations, interdisciplinary and photography courses;
•Work across disciplines in the arts to engage with emerging trends at the intersection ofcontemporary art, pedagogical practice, and entrepreneurial skills that foster connections withindustry professionals;
•Candidate must address the needs of a student population of great diversity—in age, culturalbackground, ethnicity, primary language, and academic preparation—through course materials,teaching strategies, and advisement;
•Effectiveness in academic assignment; service on department, college, and university
committees; and continuing creative and professional activity are required to achieve tenure and promotion.
Salary Range: Commensurate with qualifications and experience.
