Filter Photo is seeking a creative, entrepreneurial Executive Director to lead the organization’s growth and long-term sustainability. The Executive Director will be responsible for advancing the Filter Photo’s mission of serving and supporting the photographic communities of Chicago and the Midwest, and of highlighting Chicago as a vital center of the national photographic community.
The Executive Director will be charged with planning and producing the annual Filter Photo Festival, now in its seventh year. He/she will also be charged with further developing Filter Space, the organization’s new gallery and project space. In addition, the Executive Director will be responsible for fundraising, grant writing, marketing strategies, program development, communications with the Board of Directors, liaising with photography professionals, community partnerships, and general administrative duties.
The Executive Director will work closely with Filter Photo’s Director of Operations and other staff members. He/she will receive support and oversight from the Board of Directors. The Executive Directorship requires strong skills as a leader, a communicator, and a collaborator.
This is a salaried position paying $30,000 to $35,000 depending on experience. The time expectation is approximately 30 hours per week. The Executive Director must reside in the Chicagoland area and can often work from home, but also needs to oversee the Filter Space several days a week and be available evenings and weekends for events. The schedule is seasonal, with a busier period approaching the annual fall festival.
