Photography Lab Technician

Haverford College in Haverford, PA invites applications for a Photography Lab Technician who will work 22 hours per week for 36 weeks @ $25.00/ hour ($19,800 annually).

Description of Duties:
The technician is a team member helping faculty and staff assist students in the use of digital platforms and chemically based photographic techniques for producing photographic media. This is accomplished by working with students in workshops and supervised times to complete class assignments during the semester. The technician is responsible for maintaining the digital and chemical assets of the darkroom and teaching spaces in Marshall Fine Arts Building and the Photography studio in the Old Fencing Room. The technician is tasked with maintaining the equipment in chemical and digital darkrooms and their safe operation within EPA safety standards. They are also responsible for ordering and keeping an inventory of supplies needed for the operation of digital and chemical darkrooms.

Qualifications: B.A. or M.F.A.
The technician should have extensive working and experiential knowledge of Photoshop, including the production and editing of images, as well as the creation and management of profiles for printing images when moving corrected and formatted files from Photoshop or related digital software to interface with the ink printer. The skill and trained eye of an expert technician is required to calibrate displays, projectors, laptops, and digital printers to maintain a uniform level of color and gradient gray scales within acceptable ranges of the lab’s closed looped color management systems. The technician should possess advanced knowledge of creating archival and retrieval systems for digital files created by students and faculty using the lab. Additional software and skills related to Photoshop and related ones within the Adobe software suite are desirable and related operational software programs. The technician is tasked with and responsible for maintaining and upgrading all software and operational systems by installing their latest versions for use in the facility.
