An LGBTQ+ Billboard exhibition
That Way / Deadline: 06/07/21
Queering the Cream City is a public art exhibition in Milwaukee, Wisconsin organized by Vaughan Larsen as an extension of That Way, an Instagram account and printed zine, featuring weekly takeovers of LGBTQ+ artists. We are hosting an outdoor exhibition by replacing ads on billboards with art, adding contemporary LGBTQ+ art to the streets of Milwaukee. The billboards are paid for with your entry fees, so even if you don't get work accepted you will be helping this project become reality.
This will be Wisconsin's first ever billboard art exhibition featuring work exclusively made by LGBTQ+ artists! Queering the Cream City will be presented as an exhibit mounted simultaneously on the urban streets of Milwaukee and, in cooperation with the contemporary art gallery The Alice Wilds, from July 23rd through August 23rd, 2021. We are so ecstatic for this project to celebrate the vibrant queer community in Milwaukee! If your work is chosen, you will be invited to either show work in the gallery, or on a local billboard.
Curated by Vaughan Larsen, T.J. Dedeaux-Norris, and Laurence Philomene, both of whom have been featured artists on the @thatwa.y page.
