PHOTOVARIOUS

Long Beach Creative Group   /   Deadline: 06/15/20

Download in PDF Format

The Long Beach Creative Group requests submissions for PHOTOVARIOUS, an exhibition of photographic art organized by guest curator Mick Victor in partnership with the Museum of Latin American Art. The Group seeks artists who approach their work in non-conventional ways, and will be chosen based on their ability to produce a group of 4-6 exhibition images that deliver a cohesive strength in style, content and/or method that extends the medium both technically and creatively.

Submissions must be received by 6 PM on Monday, June 15, 2020. The exhibition will open from 6 to 9pm on Saturday, August 8 at the LBCG/Rod Briggs Gallery, located at 2221 East Broadway in Long Beach, CA, and will remain open through Saturday, September 5.

Victor, a fine art photographer himself, has exhibited work in the Chuck Jones Gallery in Costa Mesa, and in Long Beach at the Expo Arts Center, the Museum of Latin American Art and is producing new work for an exhibition at ArtEthic Galerie in Fall 2021 in Paris. "With PHOTOVARIOUS, I want to show some of the really innovative thinking being done in photography," Victor said, "by artists who see the role of the camera differently. I want to feature work that represents a newer photographic process and thinking that too often gets quieted by the insistence on traditional skills."

Marka Burns, Co-Director of the Long Beach Creative Group, jumped at the chance to work with Victor. "He is well known for his photography work, and we're very confident he will bring together a group of artists who consistently push the photographic process into new areas."

"Supporting local artists, and diversity in the arts field, allows us to perpetuate MOLAA's mission," said Dr. Lourdes I. Ramos, President & CEO of the Museum of Latin American Art. "More than ever, art allows us to create connections and explore human creativity as an outlet of emotion and expression." MOLAA's Chief Curator, Gabriela Urtiaga, will be joining Victor and the submission review committee, along with members of the LBCG.

To submit work for consideration, artists should email 4 to 6 images to photovariousart@gmail.com. Individual files should be 3 megabytes or less. Artists should include a current biography, Curriculum Vitae, and contact information. Specifics about the call, and other details, can be found at: https://www.facebook.com/photovarious/

The gallery's regular hours are Thursday & Friday 4-6 PM, and Saturday & Sunday 1-4 PM.
