Photo Exhibit - Consciousness & Conflict Resolution: Photographic Impressions of Earth and Its People

International CRE Conference   /   Deadline: 04/21/15

In collaboration with the 2015 International CRE Conference (hosted by George Mason University and the Global Partnership for the Prevention of Armed Conflict), the Shah Family is arranging a networking reception for students and professionals in conflict & peace related fields. Hosted at the Loft at 600 F located in DC's energetic Chinatown, an art exhibit featuring images of the pressing issues people face around the world will provide the perfect dialogue piece for potential collaboration and exchange. Select light cuisine from award winning, socially and environmentally conscious DC restaurants as well as authentic Neapolitan pizza will be served.

We are now accepting submissions to showcase the work and travels of individuals in our photographic gallery. For all those who are interested, please find below additional details and directions for submitting your photos to be featured at the reception and conference. The submission form is available on-line at www.CREducation.org/cre/goto/creconf

Requirements

Submission Criteria:

- Working Professionals (ages 35 and under) & Undergraduate/Graduate students of any age are eligible.
- Photograph contributors may provide up to 7 high-res digital images for review.
- All images need to have been personally photographed.
- Images should provide multiple perspectives if they convey a political or divisive situation.
- Please include photographs of the natural beauty of the country you visited.

Resource Scarcity - Environmental Degradation - Climate Change - Human Security - Disaster Risk Reduction - Militarization & Demilitarization - Gang Prevention - Innovative Use of Art, Media, and Technology - Gender Based Violence Prevention - Faith-Based Initiatives - Indigenous Peoples - Protecting Vulnerable Populations - Human Trafficking - Intercultural Understanding/Cultural Sensitivity/Ethnic-Race Relations - Traditional and Culturally Relevant Approaches to Peacebuilding - Community Development - Youth Participation in Peacebuilding

Awards

Art Exhibit Information:

- Images will be displayed by country or by conflict and peace theme. A list of potential themes can be found below.
- The Shah Family will (1) Print your images at a minimum size of 8x10 to a maximum of 20x30 (2) Take care of framing (3) Develop select images in a canvas format.
- Prints and canvased images will be mailed to the photographer upon the completion of the conference.

Evaluation Criteria

- The Shah Family team and members of the conference's planning committee will review submissions.
- You will be notified by April 27 if some or all of your photos are selected for display.
- If your images are selected, then you will be asked to provide a short summary of what each photograph portrays (3-5 sentences) and a brief bio (up to 250 words) by June 1.
