Where I Come From
Ohio University / Deadline: 09/09/16
The phrase Where I Come From can evoke a number of responses: history, geographic location, socioeconomic class, familial ties. Its use can articulate affinities and differences amongst and within individuals and cultures. Photography, thru its common use of marking significant moments or places can reinforce notions of where one comes from. This exhibition seeks works that examines this claim-where I come from-as a point of departure to consider questions of the landscape of identity.
Where I Come From will be a presentation of Alternatives, a biennial juried exhibition organized by Ohio University’s MFA Photography + Integrated Media program in the School of Art. Since its beginning in 1980, Alternatives has achieved national recognition for its leadership in forging new definitions in the medium by emphasizing the work of photographers in the conceptual forefront of the practice.
This year’s exhibition will be juried by Hans Gindlesberger, who will select works for display in the Ohio University Seigfred gallery.
