Calling all analog and film photographers to submit work by July 31st, midnight Pacific Time, to take part to the second JRNL newsprint issue to be released in September, 2019.
JRNL is FotoFilmic's new quarterly newsprint publication. Each edition is associated with a monthlong JRNL Open Call juried by influential curators and editors of photography and publishes 12 photographers (1 spread each). The Guest Editor also awards the JRNL cover to 1 of the 12 selected photographers (cover + spread) and writes a few paragraphs of feedback commenting on all the works presented. JRNL copies will be available online, as well as distributed internationally at select partnering venues in Canada, USA, Australia, Europe and Asia.
All 12 published photographers receive 1 complimentary JRNL copy each.
Vancouver, BC, Canada
All nationalities are accepted. Submitting photographers must be 18 years of age or older.
All works submitted must have been shot after January 2010 and have been captured by analog methods (film in all formats + any other material recording media such as paper, glass, etc.).
- All submissions reviewed by Guest Curators Rachel & Gregory Barker of STANLEY/BARKER
- 12 photographers selected for print publication (full spreads)
- 1 photographer also receives the JRNL Cover for additional exposure
- All published photographers receive a free JRNL print copy in the mail
Photographers may submit up to 10 photographs from either a single body of work or from different series.
This is an Open Theme Call: Guest Curators Rachel & Gregory Barker are interested in reviewing a wide variety of works authored from many contemporary perspectives. Innovative approaches to all genres of photography, as well as rigorous technical execution and refined aesthetics are therefore essential to successful submissions.
Rachel & Gregory directly review all submissions (no shortlisting) and select 12 photographers and portfolios from which to thread a common narrative into each new JRNL issue.
