Concept: Geometry is the branch of mathematics concerned with the properties and relations of points, lines, surfaces, solids, and higher dimensional analogs. In the arts, it has referred to the shape and relative arrangement of the parts of something and includes concepts such as the golden ratio and the use of geometric symbols. It can be found historically in Islamic & Renaissance art, folk art quilts, and was embraced as an aesthetic by the great masters of modern art in the 20th Century. It continues to thrive today as exemplified by artists utilizing algorithms and expressing them through visual means. When art and math are used in conjunction, moments of true interdisciplinary coordination occur.

This national juried exhibition at Hera Gallery seeks to exhibit a varied perspective on contemporary views of geometry including, but NOT limited to, pattern (whether in data or aesthetic), fractals, string theory, along with the formal vocabulary of geometry from mathematicians like Euclid to artists such as Mondrian.

Eligibility

Open to works of any medium depicting GEOMETRY as the main subject. 3D limited to 100 lbs and must fit through a 5'10" x 6'8" door. 2D must fit through said door.

Entry Fee: Each artist may submit 3 entries for $30. Judging will be done from digital files. Fees are non-refundable.

Work should be submitted either electronically to be sent to info@heragallery.org with "GEOMETRY" in the subject line or on a CD. Files should contain jpeg images of work; an image list that contains artist name, address, phone numbers, email, title of work, year completed, medium, dimension (h x w x d) and price. Jpegs must be 300 dpi and maximum 1024 pixels on the longest side.

Extra detail images will NOT be sent to the juror. One image per submission.

Notification Of Acceptance: Hera Gallery will contact artists by Wednesday, August 12th regarding the inclusion of their artwork into GEOMETRY.
