2019 SPE Northwest CHAPTER EXHIBITION

The University of Alaska Fairbanks Art Gallery will be hosting the SPENW Chapter Exhibition during our 2019 conference. This exhibition is an opportunity to highlight our chapter's recent and extensive portfolios as a part of the Northwest Chapter and as a result of our passionate commitments to the arts and photographic education.

Theme & Requirements
The work should incorporate the theme of the conference— In Our Own Voices: Culture / Identity, but this theme will be broadly considered. This is also an opportunity to exhibit work that might not always fit in the box of photography. All photographic ideas are welcome to apply. Anything that is derived from lens-based media will be eligible.

Fee for Submission
There is no entry fee. All submissions should be submitted via the link to the google form as jpegs no more than 2.5mb. Please see instructions for submission. Exhibitors will be responsible for the cost of shipping of all accepted artwork to and from the exhibition venue. To do this, you will need to include a UPS or FedEx Return Label with your ready-to-hang work.

Deadline for Submission: August 20, 2019, by Midnight (AKST)

Date of Notification: August 21, 2019

Arrival Shipment / Drop Off Dates: September 5, 2019 between 10 am - 5 pm

Dates of Exhibition: September 13–27, 2019

Shipping / Pick-Up Dates: September 28 – October 4, 2019, between 10 am - 5 pm

Eligibility

The SPENW 2019 Chapter conference explores the diversity of representations of identity and culture through the photographic arts. From traditional to digital to alternative processes to video, all photographic techniques and approaches are welcome. Fine Art photography, documentary, commercial, mixed media incorporating photography, photo books & sculptures, and digital imaging and collages – are all eligible! Space is limited; artwork must not be larger than 20" x20" x20". Installation type work should be tested and easy to install.

Must be a current SPE member within the SPENW Chapter conference states of Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, Washington, and Wyoming.

Requirements

Submit up to five images of artwork as JPEGS with the submission form below via google form.

Entries
Each artist is limited to 1 piece of lens-based art, professionally presented, and ready to
be displayed.

Save files as:
Last Name_First Initial_(number – 01)_view (if applicable).jpg.
Examples: Smith_J _01.jpg or Smith_J_01_view1.jpg.
Files should not exceed 2.5MB in size, 2,000 pixels on the longest dimension, Save as AdobeRGB, and two views as appropriate for 3-D related work.

Please note: Improperly titled jpegs and/or a missing submission form will result in your submission(s) not being reviewed.

Considerations

ACCEPTED WORK
Shipping & Delivery: Must be shipped in a reusable container with bubble wrap, no styrofoam peanuts. Artwork must be shipped ready to hang and arrive no later than September 5, 2019. Enclose your return shipping label, this must be printed and available upon opening of the artwork. In-person drop-offs must be arranged with J. Jason Lazarus, Conference Coordinator, at northwest@spenational.org.

Instructors dropping artwork off at the gallery will be responsible for picking up their artwork or notifying the gallery of an alternate collecting their artwork at the end of the show. Artwork should still be submitted in a container, ready to hang.

Shipping Costs: All shipping to and from the exhibition is the responsibility of the artist. Return shipping must be enclosed as a FedEx or UPS paid shipping label. Artwork sent without any return shipping information will not be installed nor will it be returned.

Disclaimer: The 2019 SPENW Chapter conference committee and exhibition sponsor reserves the right to determine appropriate condition of accepted artwork once received in accordance with electronic submission and the venue's criteria for the 2019 SPENW Juried Chapter exhibition.

Evaluation Criteria

This year SPENW will be host open exhibition featuring the first 40 artists who submit works that meet the requirements of the exhibition.
