2014 Salt Lake City, UT - SW Regional Conference-Call for Proposals

The SPE Southwest Region is accepting presentation proposals for the 2014 Regional Conference "A Collective Vision" October 17-19, to be held in Salt Lake City, Utah. Proposals will be accepted until June 1, 2014.

Although recommended, topics are not required to be theme-based, and may include, but are not limited to; image-making, photo history, contemporary theory and criticism, multidisciplinary approaches, new technologies, effects of media and culture, educational issues, funding, and presentations of work in lens based mediums, including analog and digital. Presentations are limited to 30-45 min.

Eligibility: Current SPE members are eligible to submit a proposal for consideration. Individuals who have presented at two SPE Regional Conferences since 2011 are not eligible.

Awards: Accepted presentations/lectures are eligible for free admission to attend the two-day 2014 SPE Regional Conference (Oct. 19 field-trip and UMFA Private Tour not included). Current SPE membership is required to participate as a conference speaker/presenter.

Presenter Categories: (select one)
-Graduate Student presentation of your own artistic work and a brief introduction to your graduate program. Must be enrolled in graduate program at time of submission. Must submit up to 15 images to support presentation.
-Image-Maker presentation on your own artistic work. Must submit up to 15 images to support presentation.
-Lecture presentation on historical or contemporary topic, theory, or another artist's work.
-Panel a group led by a moderator to discuss a chosen topic.
-Teaching and Learning presentations, workshops, demos that addresses educational issues, including teaching resources and strategies (syllabi, videos, assignments, readings, class prep/setup, and power point presentations); curricula to serve diverse artists and changing student populations; seeking promotion and tenure; avoiding burnout, and professional exchange.

Proposal Submission Check List:
Confirm or renew your SPE membership.
Include: name, address, phone, email, title of submission, presentation category (from list), and additional speakers/panelists if applicable (All additional speakers must be confirmed at time of submission).

A 500-word abstract detailing the work submitted, presentation topic and description, or panel discussion.
A 200-word biographical summary for each intended participant. .
Up to 15 images (send low res, around 1280 x 1280 px at 72 ppi) related to your presentation if applicable.

Evaluation Criteria: A three-member peer review panel will review submissions. Awarded entries will be notified no later than June 15, 2014. Presenter Contract will need to be returned by June 30, 2014.

Terms: By submitting a proposal, you agree to be a presenter/speaker during the conference (Oct. 17-18) if your proposal is awarded.
