Women of Power: A Line of Support

Women of Power: A Line of Support is a typological-style portrait series of women celebrating the choice to not wear bras. While there are many out there who support the freedom of comfort, there are still those who hold strong beliefs that exposure of the female breast is inappropriate. This poses many questions within our society. Why do we shame women’s bodies more than men’s? Why is the reveal of the female breast automatically sexualized and men’s are not? Why do others feel the need to control our bodies?

This project exists as life size prints and a book that celebrates identity, choice, and the female breast through portraits and the stories of these women. While this series narrows in on a specific “taboo” that is not yet completely accepted in our society, the subject connects to so much more. These portraits symbolize the idea that even if society tries to constrain us, we will continue to work towards embracing the female body instead of feeling ashamed and hiding it. We will remain women of power and stand together, in a line of support.
