Spouses, is a series of environmental portraits that explore the daily lives of women married to military members, and my own identification as a spouse.
After marrying a Marine when I was twenty, I continued to struggle with identifying who I was and where I fit into the life of a dependent spouse, especially with how I was supposed to fit into the societal expectations that were put upon me as a Marine wife.
To better understand and Identity with this community, I began photographing women married to military members. I create environmental portraits of these women to understand the struggles, sacrifices, and stigma that is associated with being a military spouse. Placing them in their personal spaces that give a glimpse into who they are, and their importance within the world they inhabit.
