about

I am an image maker and storyteller exploring the relationship between landscape and memory-keeping. My practice investigates interpretations of the natural through markers, meanings, and mythologies motivated by a sense of wonder. I use photography to examine prosaic and abandoned places, thus inviting others to reflect, remember, and imagine. My work is quiet. It blends the organic and human-made, questions the unknown and unknowable, and relies on rituals and relics to call for consideration of how we interact with and understand our surroundings.

Noah S. Thompson was raised in Oregon and New Mexico. They received a dual B.A. in English and Art from Dickinson College and an M.F.A. in Studio Art from the University of Connecticut. Their exhibition venues include the Mattatuck Museum of Art & History, Strata Gallery, Rhode Island Center for Photographic Arts, Da Vinci Art Alliance, and birds + Richard Gallery Berlin. Noah's work has been supported by the Ford/Knauth Fellowship for LGBTQIA+ Artists at the Woodstock Byrdcliffe Guild and the 2023 UCONN Zachs Award.
