Melissa has earned her Bachelor’s in Fine Arts in Photography and a minor in Art History (with an emphasis on photographic history and practice) at the University of Akron in Akron, Ohio. Melissa has shown internationally and continues to make work about what the definition of home actually means and women’s issues. Melissa is the recipient of many grants and scholarships, and was the Event Coordinator of Folk Photography Association in Akron, Ohio. Melissa currently teaches Elements of Digital Photography at the University of Iowa, reads more books then she should, and owns a cat named Valentino, who has thumbs.
