Liberty at Work
In the winter of 2014 I drove around Southern California looking for Liberty. What I found is working people doing their best in the face of an economy out of balance. On street corner after street corner I encountered people waving, dancing, generating smiles and making brief human connections all while dressed up as the Statue of Liberty. These men and women generously allowed me to photograph and interview them as they did their seasonal job promoting a tax preparation company. The series of nineteen portraits is my way of honoring their work and wondering about the meaning of liberty under capitalism.
