In my current series "Just like I planned" I examine the convergence of fatherhood and middle age using a blend of documentary and staged photography. I am drawn to photography because of the medium's ability to explore these everyday subjects in a unique manner. Within my images I use deliberate framing choices, and an original perspective set amongst ordinary scenes. Through these visuals my intent is to point to things larger and more expansive than what is within the frame.
As a father I feel the constant tension between succeeding in my individual aspirations and as a father. My visual exploration brings a sense of peace as it allows me to surrender control while still achieving compelling imagery. Larry Sultan said it very astutely, "To me the truth is about performance, how we perform, how we project and the truth can be staged, and the truth can be found."
